Beach mom a.k.a. Cathy Reynolds

Wow, we just purchased a whippet and with this web site, I feel like I have just found more family! I have been reading some of the postings and I already 'see' Checkers in so many of them! Checkers is an 18-month old female brindle/white show dog. She is on the very low end of the scale in size. We have had her for 3 weeks and in reading some of the messages on the board I have discovered that yes, her nose is sunburned (we live in Hawaii), the tendency to run off with the kids' stuffed animals and some of our laundry is called hoarding, her reluctance to get in the car and severe shaking while riding in the car is normal and can hopefully be overcome (no barfing yet, thank goodness). I have ordered Coile's book about whippets and look forward to better understanding this breed. Checkers is a sweetheart who definitely has a mind of her own but is quite obedient when it suits her. The feeding issues are intriguing and we have been tempting her to eat with cottage cheese, cheddar cheese and her favorite,

huli huli chicken (rotisserie). In fact, she learned to use the doggie door in about 10 minutes with me waving a chicken leg under her nose (on the other side, of course)! Sorry, I've run on but we are pet owners again for the first time in 12 years. Our kids, 15 and 12, think she is terrific and their beds are her bed whenever she can manage it. I look forward to reading more notices and sending in questions and responses.
