Brighton's Mum a.k.a. Kayla Lesser

Brighton entered my life in October 1998. I had been transferred in Feb. 1998 from Seattle to Philadelphia because of my job. My mother was helping me drive cross-country (with her Aussie, Natalie - GREAT dog!). When we arrived in Philly, the house I had arranged to rent was awful - I had only seen the model previously. I got my deposit back and we continued to drive and look for a place to live. We were in and out of hotels and one night, we just kept driving. We ended up in Phoenixville, PA (felt like the middle of nowhere) and we came upon a B&B. Their guests had cancelled that night and they were cooking out doors. We asked if we could stay and, are dogs allowed? Well, turned out that they had 1 great dane, 1 bassett hound, and FOUR rescued whippets! It was my introduction to the wonderful breed. Nattie got along with them well, so, after we finally found a place to live, I set about putting my name on whippet rescue lists. We finally got a call - it wasn't for a rescue, but there was a breeder in the area who had a dog that she felt would do better as one of two dogs rather than one of 15. So, we met Brighton at a dog show. I fell in love with him on the spot. He's gorgeous - we get so many compliments on him. We had to wait for about a week and then we picked him up. I was SO excited!

Then, the fun began. He was still young and he's very different from the Aussie we had (still have.) We came home to chewed up pens, ripped up paper, chewed books, "accidents" around the house - SA... oh ya, he's a puppy, and a whippet! He has since grown up and Nattie has become his best dog friend.

In 2001, I got married to Matt and moved down to Alexandria, VA. Brighton came with us and Natalie is with my mum in Arlington. Uh oh.... Brighton's alone and there's the SA again. So, we ended up with a wonderful Siamese kitten, Emma, to keep Brighton company. She was 10 weeks when we got her, so she has grown up with Brighton (and Natalie when she visits). They are all quite close...and the house is peaceful again.
