Lanie's Mom a.k.a. Carolyn Corum

What a great communication board. I have already learned so much. I live in Indian River County, it's on the East coast of Central Florida. We have had Lanie (who is 1 1/2) for two months. I came home from work the day we got her, her toe was infected, the vet says bring her in. Her toenails were cut way too short, everyone one of her toes had that process done that stops the bleeding. We bonded by sitting in the bathtub together at least two times a day , up to 4 times a day for 10 days soaking her foot in a bedadine solution along with antibiotics the toe got better. We took her to behavior training then she went into heat. Turns out she is a counter surfer. I didn't know what that was, I mean there is actually a name for it? Lanie is not my first whippet.

I had a whippet 7 years ago, I had him for 11 years. He loved to run and was very affectionate. He was the perfect pet. After he died I said no more. We had two children and I couldn't give one the time I know they need.

The family has been asking for a dog for years. Because I work, hubby works long hours, kids are in school all day I have said no, no, no.

This past year I too felt the longing for a dog. I started by looking at the Humane Society. I looked for two months. I couldn't find one.

Then I started thinking about a whippet. I knew why none of those dogs appealed to me. I wanted another whippet!

Too make along story short, I finally found one about an hour and a half drive from my house.

She is lovely. How did I go 7 years without a whippet, I don't know.

She lays all over the family and sleeps with my 14 year old daughter. Of course my 11 year old son is jealous.

My kids and I like to throw the Frisbee. We're trying to teach Lanie to "get the Frisbee" No luck yet. Any teaching techniques would be appreciated.

We would so much like to meet other whippet owners in the area so our dogs could run together.

I find myself thinking how fun two whippets would be.....
