Twiggy's Mom a.k.a. Laura
| Twiggy had her first birthday on September 25th and I still can't image
where I would be without this message board. I have learned so much,
laughed and cried from various posts over the last 9 months. My husband
and I live in a floating home on Lake Union in Seattle, Washington. Twiggy
joined our household when she was three months old in December of 2001.
She is our first dog and only child. Luckily, she was readily house
trained (more of a chore in a floating home). Since my husband and I both
work outside of the home, we struggled with crating her during the day,
but we soon resorted to doggie daycare which Twiggy adored. Nothing like
romping around with another 8 - 12 dogs all day! Unfortunately, our
daycare closed in August and Twiggy has been adjusting to staying at home.
She gets a break around mid-day when a dog walker comes and takes her to
walk with some of her old daycare pals. (Don't know how we lucked out, but
this guy is great!) Being home alone for the bulk of the day, she has had
her destructive moments - a window sill near the front door and the
mini-blinds (metal-ugh) have received her attention. Attempts to crate her
caused her more injury so we are just taking it one day at a time, hoping
we are now on the down side of the destruction bell curve. I have been
seriously considering getting a whippet sibling for her but do not want to
"double our problems". Twiggy is getting used to sailing with us
on our sailboat and enjoys standing on the bow with her nose in the wind
looking adorable in her life jacket. We have been through basic obedience
and continue to practice but I am looking for an on-going obedience class
to reinforce our work. Twiggy loves to snuggle with us in the evenings
while we watch TV or read but is always ready for the pre-bedtime stroll,
no matter the weather. We have been vigilant about keeping her off the
furniture and bed. Therefore our floors are littered with cushions and
blankets where we spend most of the time with her.
